A couple who were arrested last year after at least 190 bodies were found decomposing at their Colorado funeral home were arrested again on Sunday on federal charges that they fraudulently obtained more than $880,000 in pandemic relief money, which they spent on vacations and personal goods, according to the F.B.I. and court records. The couple, Jon and Carie Hallford, who owned Return to Nature Funeral Home in Colorado Springs and Penrose, Colo., face 15 federal fraud charges, according to an indictment filed in U.S. District Court in Colorado that was unsealed on Monday. There was no listing in federal court documents for their lawyers. Lawyers representing them on the state charges did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Monday.

A husband and wife who owned a Colorado funeral home were arrested in Oklahoma on Wednesday in connection to the improper handling of at least 190 bodies that had been left in their care, the authorities said. The couple, Jon and Carie Hallford, were operating the Return to Nature Funeral Home in Colorado Springs and Penrose, Colo., which offered so-called green burial options. The services advertised on the business’s website featured burials without chemicals or concrete vaults, which included placing bodies in biodegradable caskets, baskets, shrouds or “even nothing at all.”The Hallfords were arrested in Wagoner, Okla. They had not been formally charged but were held on suspicion of committing abuse of a corpse, theft, money laundering and forgery, all felony charges, according to a statement from the Fourth Judicial District Attorney’s Office in Colorado Springs. District Attorney Michael J. Allen said at a news conference on Wednesday that the probable-cause affidavit in the case had been sealed but added, “The information contained in that affidavit is absolutely shocking.”

DENVER (AP) — The remains of at least 189 decaying bodies were found and removed from a Colorado funeral home, up from about 115 reported when the bodies were discovered two weeks ago, officials said Tuesday. Political Cartoons View All 1211 ImagesAuthorities responding to an “abhorrent smell” entered the funeral home’s neglected building with a search warrant Oct. 4 and found the decomposing bodies. Colorado has some of the weakest rules for funeral homes in the nation with no routine inspections or qualification requirements for funeral home operators. There’s no indication state regulators visited the site or contacted Hallford until more than 10 months after the Penrose funeral home’s registration expired. State lawmakers gave regulators the authority to inspect funeral homes without the owners’ consent last year, but no additional money was provided for increased inspections.

It was the biggest price paid for a soccer team, and for a while the biggest price paid for a sports team anywhere in the world. And the enormous proceeds were to create what would be one of the biggest humanitarian charities ever established. But 13 months after the forced sale of Chelsea F.C. after the British government sanctioned its Russian oligarch owner, Roman Abramovich, the charity has yet to be established and not a cent of the $3.1 billion (2.5 billion pounds) has gone toward its intended purpose: providing aid to victims of the war in Ukraine. The government’s permission is required before any transfer of the money from a frozen bank account to the charity, to ensure that none of the money is funneled to Russia, or to Abramovich.

It’s unclear what if any evidence he has in his possession related to the Coffee County breach. Penrose and Logan were also named in a state-level criminal investigation in Michigan alleging they participated in a conspiracy to seize voting machines there. A local election official helped them gain access to sensitive voting data which they downloaded onto a portable hard drive. Bundren was part of the team enlisted by Trump’s lawyers to find evidence of widespread voter fraud after the 2020 election. Bundren helped oversee the multi-state push to access voting machines on behalf of the Trump legal team, according to several documents obtained by CNN.
Called “The hat” because it vaguely resembles a fedora, the elusive shape is an “einstein” (from the German “ein stein,” or “one stone”). “I’m not really into math, to be honest — I did it at school, but I didn’t excel in it,” Smith said. “The hat,” however, is an aperiodic tile, meaning it can still completely cover a surface without any gaps, but you can never identify any cluster that periodically repeats itself to do so. How ‘The hat’ worksThere’s nothing inherently magical about “The hat,” according to Kaplan. “We’re not trying to protect it in any way,” Kaplan said.
Lambert started in her home state of Michigan, joining four lawsuits on behalf of Trump supporters. As Trump zeroed in on vote-rigging allegations in Michigan, Lambert emailed the White House, according to her July 2021 video interview with two right-wing websites. Cotton and Penrose also were involved in examining breached voting machines in Michigan for DePerno and Lambert, according to the Michigan attorney general investigation. In the process, the commissioners were accused of flouting a court order by allowing a forensics company to inspect county voting equipment. In August 2021, a federal judge reprimanded Lambert, Powell and seven other lawyers who joined the failed lawsuit seeking to overturn Michigan’s vote after Trump’s 2020 defeat.
A second man who helped put an end to the deadly mass shooting in Colorado this month broke his silence Sunday, describing his actions as a defense of "family" at the LGBTQ nightclub and beyond. James, who has been stabilized at Centura Health's Penrose Hospital, subdued the suspect, helped disarm him and held him for authorities alongside decorated Army veteran Richard Fierro, 45, of Colorado Springs, Fierro and authorities said. Colorado Springs Police Chief Adrian Vasquez described Fierro and James at a news conference the day after the attack as "the two heroes who intervened inside of Club Q." James said nearly the same thing in his statement Sunday, but his definition of family seemed to be more inclusive. "Thankfully, we are family, and family looks after one another," he said.
